Summer Camp 2019 – Botany Bay, Wales

21st (Larkhall) and 23rd (Batheaston) joined forces at the start of the summer holidays for their second joint Summer Camp – this time at Gwent Area Scouts Botany Bay campsite.

Thirty scouts and young leaders aged between 10 years 6 months and 15 years 9 months took up this fabulous opportunity to make new friends and develop teamwork, leadership and survival skills as they worked in 4 patrols, setting up camp, collecting wood and building fires to cook their own meals.

It’s not all work though! The week was also filled with great activities for the Scouts – high ropes, mountain biking, swimming and canoeing on the Wye. Wednesday evening saw Scouts putting their creative cooking skills to excellent use, dishing up 3 course meals including pizzas and toad in the hole to invited Leaders and their patrols on ‘a la carte’ night, all cooked over their fires.

And of course camp wouldn’t be complete without the evening campfire. Botany Bay campsite, complete with its own fantastic woodland, offered a really atmospheric campfire circle in the middle of the woods, where evenings were spent drinking hot chocolate, eating homemade cake, singing and playing games.

Another hugely successful camp over, Scouts were delivered back to parents tired but exhilarated. Roll on next year!

Once upon a (Sunny) Camp!

23rdCubs Beavers

Over the May bank holiday, the Cubs and Beavers ages 5-10 years old, both boys and girls from across Bath not only got to enjoy the fabulous weather with their friends – they had a wealth of amazing activities and opportunities to participate in, in this year’s camp.

The biggest Scout camp since 1985, Bath District Beaver and Cub camp saw 350 young people join together to take make new friends, have fun and make some amazing memories across 3 days while sleeping under canvas. All this enabled by over 100 adults – Leaders aided by parents experiencing some of the satisfaction of working with young people in such a fun environment.

With activities ranging from archery to grass sledging and jujitsu – there really was something for everyone and everyone had the chance to develop new skills.

For those who enjoy the adrenalin of adventure, the sky-high climbing wall provided an active, safe way to challenge physical dexterity and nerves. Whilst the arts and craft tent provided an oasis for creativity and ‘imagination to be brought to fruition. If that wasn’t enough, the Beavers and Cubs also had an array of sporting and team building activities to participate in, not to mention a field of inflatables to have fun with their friends on!

Of course, no camp would be complete without an evening campfire and some tasty marshmallows to toast, and to help wind down after a day of adventure, the campers were treated to outdoor screenings of a classic film.

Big Weekend ahead

Beavers and Cubs are off this weekend to the District Camp on the other side of Bath. Loads of fun events are planned for them including archery, grass sledging and abseiling. Meanwhile Scouts will be taking part in the Larkhall Festival and hoping to retain their Soap Box Derby trophy from last year. Come along and visit us at the Coconut Shy and have a chat about what we get up to.

JOIN THE ADVENTURE

Obviously Scouting at all levels is great fun and educational for the young people involved. However it can also be fun for adults as well. Try activities you’ve never had the chance to previously, experience the satisfaction of teaching someone a skill that will improve their life, and join a team of other friendly volunteers.

If this is of interest get in touch via the “Join us” tab with some contact details and we’ll get back to you.
