21st (Larkhall) and 23rd (Batheaston) joined forces at the start of the summer holidays for their second joint Summer Camp – this time at Gwent Area Scouts Botany Bay campsite.
Thirty scouts and young leaders aged between 10 years 6 months and 15 years 9 months took up this fabulous opportunity to make new friends and develop teamwork, leadership and survival skills as they worked in 4 patrols, setting up camp, collecting wood and building fires to cook their own meals.
It’s not all work though! The week was also filled with great activities for the Scouts – high ropes, mountain biking, swimming and canoeing on the Wye. Wednesday evening saw Scouts putting their creative cooking skills to excellent use, dishing up 3 course meals including pizzas and toad in the hole to invited Leaders and their patrols on ‘a la carte’ night, all cooked over their fires.
And of course camp wouldn’t be complete without the evening campfire. Botany Bay campsite, complete with its own fantastic woodland, offered a really atmospheric campfire circle in the middle of the woods, where evenings were spent drinking hot chocolate, eating homemade cake, singing and playing games.
Another hugely successful camp over, Scouts were delivered back to parents tired but exhilarated. Roll on next year!
